When you think of horse racing, the Kentucky Derby might cross your mind. But did you know that Illinois has its own world-renowned racecourse less than 25 miles outside of Chicago? Whether you’re looking for a thrilling experience or a family excursion on a summer afternoon, Arlington International Racecourse, part of the Chicago & Beyond region, is sure to be a terrific time.

Arlington International Racecourse offers live thoroughbred racing every Thursday through Sunday from May through September. With approximately 90 races per day, you don’t have to worry about sticking to a tight schedule and can get in the game on your time frame.

Since its opening in 1927, the racetrack has been a world-class horse racing facility and attraction for family fun. In 1981, the world’s first million dollar race was held at Arlington. Today, the Arlington Million is held annually, drawing crowds from all over.

In addition to viewing the races, Arlington hosts a variety of fun summer events throughout the season. Live music and entertainment, and a variety of dining options allow visitors to make a full day of it at the tracks. Check out the Arlington events calendar to see the full summer lineup.
